Film-Post Production Assistant

The School of Motion Pictures & Television fosters creativity and independence in filmmaking as an art. We also provide instruction in the commercial aspects of filmmaking as a business. Our approach is dedicated to practical, hands-on training in a collaborative framework. Students are immersed in a broad range of filmmaking skills, including producing, directing, cinematography, lighting, sound, editing, screenwriting, production design and acting.
Film Post-Production Technician
  This is a part-time position for Spring 2014 semester working up to 40 hours a week.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Responsibilities: Assist with general maintenance of all equipment in lab, not limited to but including: all flatbed systems, fullcoat audio transfer systems, film editorial equipment, film projection equipment facilities, and super 8 post-production equipment; This includes adhering to a maintenance schedule, troubleshooting mechanical and electronic errors Provide periodic reports of problems and necessary maintenance for equipment to the Film Post Production Lead Technician Assist in investigating industry sources for support technologies pertaining to the Film Post- Production Lab; This includes all film editing, fullcoat sound, film projection, super 8, and video post-production equipment Maintain reservations, schedules, tracks, logs lab and equipment use Assist students in fundamentals of film post-production equipment Ensure facilities reflect a clean, professional atmosphere Assist with, and able to carry out modifications to facilities and equipment Encourage an environment appreciative of film aesthetics and film history Requirements: Experience in both film post-production processes; editing, negative cutting, sound transfer and lab processes etc. and film production Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Non-Linear Editing Software, and File Maker Pro Experience in repair, maintenance and of film post-production equipment A high level of mechanical, electronic and electrical aptitude Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical principles in a simple manner An enthusiasm for, and thorough knowledge of film history and aesthetics Must be dependable, responsible and self-motivated Must be able to lift heavy equipment of at least 50 lbs   Benefits: This position includes the following benefits: One tuition free undergraduate class per semester, paid sick leave accrual, and a 401K plan after one year of service (pending completion of the required minimum hours of work)
