Question:
Can I ask for a raise after only 6 months on a job?
Answer:
If you are newly employed and have proven you have done an outstanding job, not just shown up for work but maybe closed a big deal, saved the company money, thought of a new business or product, then it might be a good idea to ask to be evaluated in light of your accomplishments. It’s a good idea to wait to see how you are being reviewed first before assuming that 6 months on the job entitles you to an increase in salary. Proving yourself first, and asking for a reward is probably a better position to put yourself in because after all, who would argue with your success?

Kathryn Jaroneski
art direction: design+motion
Kathy Jaroneski brings extensive experience to managing and collaborating with creative teams in the broadcast, film, web and print arenas. She has overseen a variety of broadcast projects from concept and design through final execution for Warner Bros, NBC and CNN, helping to garner a promotional Emmy for NBC's Third Rock from the Sun and a Promax Award for WB's Will and Grace. Among her varied accomplishments in motion design, Jaroneski has expertise in theatrical and broadcast main titles and trailers as well as sales presentations for high-pressure industry events such as NATPE and LA Screenings.
Jaroneski began her career at CNN in Atlanta where she was instrumental in the design and production of the 1991 Gulf War coverage, helping to transform CNN from a cable news start up to international powerhouse. As Associate Creative Director for NBC’s award-winning on-air promotion graphics division, “The Magic Room,” Jaroneski streamlined the productivity of daily promos for the network's popular “Must See TV” lineup, including the high-profile shows Friends, Fraser, Seinfeld, and Third Rock to name a few.
Following her tenure at NBC, Jaroneski relocated to northern California where she applied her design skills to interactive television during the height of the 'dot com' era. Teaming with product managers and software engineers to develop a patented "Graphical Interface Design" for video-on-demand prototypes, Jaroneski helped to raise over $20 million in venture capital for VOD developer MetaTV, Inc. who serviced clients such as Comcast.
As a motion graphics consultant, Jaroneski's clients include Warner Bros., CBS, New Wave Entertainment, Pacific Title, Craig Murray Productions, United Front Design, Autonomy, Fox Family Channel, The WB Network, and more.
Jaroneski has thorough knowledge of motion design and production including live action shoots, lighting, scenic art direction and software expertise in After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut and DVD Studio Pro with director’s knowledge of Cinema4D and Maya.

Long Time Between Gigs, What's Next? by Jan Nagel
Those of us in production know the drill, we get a great gig, do the best we have ever done and then we are laid off, fret for a second and are on to the next great gig. Then one day it slows down and there is more time between gigs.
